System crash via mishandled BootReceiver exceptions
Published Apr 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Improper exception handling in BootReceiver on Samsung mobile devices with Android 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, or 6.0 allows attackers to crash the system. BootReceiver fails to handle an exceptional condition correctly, allowing attacker-controlled input to terminate the operating system; Samsung has not disclosed the triggering input or code path. Remote attackers require no privileges or user interaction, and the bounded impact is a device-wide availability loss rather than data access or modification.
