Local-storage read and write via unchecked origins
Published Apr 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Improper origin validation in xdLocalStorage 2.0.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to read or write site local-storage data. The receiveMessage() handler in xdLocalStorage.js accepts cross-window messages without checking event.origin against an allowed origin before processing storage operations. Exploitation requires a user to load an attacker-controlled site that sends crafted messages, exposing only the vulnerable site’s local-storage confidentiality and integrity.
