Local storage disclosure and tampering via unchecked origin
Published Apr 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Improper input validation in xdLocalStorage through 2.0.5 allows remote attackers to read or alter local storage via malicious web messages. The receiveMessage() function in xdLocalStoragePostMessageApi.js parses JSON postMessage requests and performs set, get, remove, key, size, length, and clear actions without validating message origin. Exploitation requires enticing a user to load a malicious site that can interact with the vulnerable magic iframe, allowing confidentiality and integrity impact without service interruption.
