CVE-2015-7890Public exploit

Device service interruption via unchecked driver copy

Published Feb 12, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Buffer overflows in the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Seiren audio driver allow local users to interrupt device operation through /dev/seiren writes. The esa_write path passes an attacker-controlled size to copy_from_user, which copies into the fixed-size global ibuf0 buffer without adequate bounds checks. Access requires the system user, audio-group membership, or a privileged shell; the demonstrated consequence is memory corruption and service interruption.
