CVE-2015-5236Network attack vector

Same-origin policy bypass via spoofed applet codebase

Published Jul 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Same-origin policy bypass in IcedTea-Web allows remote attackers to access cross-origin resources via a spoofed applet codebase. The SecurityDesc permission logic derives URL and socket permissions from the HTML codebase attribute instead of the origin that supplied the applet code. A malicious site must load an applet whose attacker-controlled codebase differs from its actual origin, after which the applet receives network access outside its proper origin.
