Remote code execution via installer variable overwrite
Published Jan 6, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in DeDeCMS before 5.7-sp1 allows remote attackers to execute PHP code by writing a web shell. The installer imports request parameters into local variables, then step 11 fetches content from an attacker-controlled updateHost and writes it to the path supplied as install_demo_name. Exploitation requires an accessible install/index.php or backup copy and permission for the web process to fetch remote content and write a PHP file.
