CVE-2015-2179

MySQL credential disclosure via process arguments

Published Dec 12, 2023 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Information disclosure in xaviershay-dm-rails 0.10.3.8 allows local users to read MySQL credentials from process arguments. The Mysql storage execute method builds a mysql command with the configured password in a --password argument and passes that argument vector to system. Exposure requires a MySQL-backed local database task to run while another local user can inspect its process arguments; the consequence is disclosure of the configured database username and password.
