Authentication-token forgery via early-exit signature comparison
Published Oct 31, 2023 · Updated Sep 6, 2024
Observable timing discrepancy in JHipster generator-jhipster before 2.23.0 allows remote attackers to forge authentication tokens. TokenProvider.validateToken compares the supplied signature with the calculated signature using String.equals, which returns after the first differing character and leaks prefix-match timing. No prior authentication or user interaction is required; repeated timing observations reduce token guessing to character-by-character recovery for a chosen username.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
