Script execution via unvalidated favicon callback
Published Jun 6, 2023 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Reflected XSS in Favicon by RealFaviconGenerator before 1.2.13 allows remote attackers to run scripts via a crafted json_result_url value. The install_new_favicon callback accepts the external result without a WordPress nonce, then processes attacker-controlled favicon data and HTML. Execution requires a user to follow the crafted link; injected script runs in that user's WordPress browser context.
