Unauthorized flair assignment via interpolated message fields
Published Jan 7, 2023 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
SQL injection in Flairbot's flair.py allows remote authenticated users to bypass location validation through crafted Reddit messages. The dbLookup function embeds the message body, or its comma-separated city and state fields, directly into SQLite SELECT strings before execution. A Reddit account able to message the bot is required; successful injection changes the lookup result used to approve and assign subreddit flair, with no demonstrated command execution.
