Browser script execution via reflected API parameters
Published Jan 2, 2023 · Updated Apr 10, 2025
Reflected XSS in the OpenResolve API allows remote attackers to execute script in another user's browser through an invalid lookup parameter. The get handlers in resolverapi/endpoints.py interpolate invalid record types, domain names, and IP addresses into error responses without sanitization. Exploitation requires a user to follow a crafted API URL; script execution is confined to that user's browser context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
