CVE-2015-0949Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via unsafe SMM callouts

Published Jan 30, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

SMM callout flaws in Dell Latitude E6430 A09 and HP EliteBook 850 G1 01.09 BIOS allow local users to execute code in SMM. SMM handlers follow function pointers or call code outside protected SMRAM, allowing attacker-controlled physical memory to redirect execution. Exploitation requires kernel-level physical-memory access and an SMI trigger; successful code runs above the operating system and bypasses Secure Boot.
