CVE-2015-0243Network attack vector

Authenticated server crash via faulty pgcrypto size tracking

Published Jan 27, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Stack buffer overflows in PostgreSQL pgcrypto before 9.0.19 and in affected 9.1 through 9.4 releases allow remote authenticated users to crash the server. The pgcrypto module miscalculates memory sizes, overruns stack buffers, and uses uninitialized memory while processing function input. Reachability requires database access and the pgcrypto extension; the established impact is a server crash, while upstream did not rule out privilege escalation.
