Buffer overflow in VideoLAN VLC media player before 2.1.6 allows remote attackers to crash VLC or execute code through a crafted MP4 file. MP4_ReadBox_String in modules/demux/mp4/libmp4.c converts the untrusted 64-bit string-box size for 32-bit malloc and memcpy arguments without rejecting truncation, enabling a buffer overflow. Exploitation affects 32-bit platforms and requires a user to open the malicious file or stream; success crashes the player or executes code in its process.
