SYSTEM privilege escalation via exposed logon token
Published Aug 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Improper access control in SAP BusinessObjects Edge 4.1 allows remote authenticated users to gain SYSTEM privileges through CORBA. CORBA resource handlers fail to verify the caller's privileges before returning the SI_PLATFORM_SEARCH_SERVER_LOGON_TOKEN, which CORBA then accepts for SYSTEM actions. Any valid account can reach the flaw; an enabled Guest account removes the credential requirement and exposes all server-stored information to access or modification.
