Local privilege escalation via altered authentication flag
Published Feb 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Authentication bypass in FileMaker Pro 13.03 and FileMaker Pro Advanced 12.04 allows local users to gain elevated database privileges. The MatchPasswordData function in DBEngine.dll returns its authentication decision in the AL register, where a local debugger can change a failed result from zero to one after password hashing. Local access to the Windows client process is required; selecting the Admin username then grants full permissions to the opened database.
