CVE-2014-8321Public exploit

Local code execution via misbounded GPSd receive

Published Jan 31, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Stack overflow in Aircrack-ng before 1.2 RC 1 allows local users to execute code or gain privileges through airodump-ng GPS processing. Within gps_tracker, recv appends at line + pos but uses the full buffer size minus one instead of subtracting pos, allowing a later GPSd JSON read to write past the stack buffer. Reachability requires the GPSd path and attacker-controlled response data; the public record does not specify how a local user supplies that data.
