Code execution via malformed Zip64 metadata
Published Jan 31, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in Info-ZIP UnZip 6.0 and earlier allows attackers to execute code when the utility tests a crafted Zip64 archive. getZip64Data performs insufficient bounds checking while parsing attacker-controlled Zip64 extra-field data, causing an out-of-bounds heap access. Execution requires a user or automated workflow to invoke archive testing on the supplied file, after which the process can crash or run code in its security context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
