Application crashes via out-of-bounds TIFF writes
Published Feb 12, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Out-of-bounds writes in LibTIFF before 4.0.4 allow remote attackers to crash image-processing applications via crafted TIFF images. The thumbnail, tiffdither, tiffcmp, and tiff2pdf utilities mishandle image dimensions, codec-specific tags, and missing TIFFGetField results before writing buffers. A victim application must process the image, and the documented consequence is a process crash without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
