Local password-hash disclosure via world-readable database backup
Published Jan 27, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Information disclosure in SGI Tempo on SGI ICE-X systems allows local users to read root password hashes from /etc/dbdump.db. The Tempo MySQL update script redirects mysqldump output into the database backup without applying restrictive permissions, leaving the file world-readable. Any local ICE-X account can read the backup; newer Tempo releases expose root password hashes, while impact in earlier releases is more limited.
