CVE-2014-7210Network attack vector

Database compromise via overprivileged MySQL account

Published Jun 26, 2025 · Updated Jun 27, 2025

Incorrect permissions in Debian pdns before 3.3.1-1 allow attackers with database credentials to alter the PowerDNS MySQL database. The pdns-backend-mysql maintainer scripts use dbconfig-common to create the pdns MySQL account with database privileges broader than the server requires. Exploitation requires access to that account's credentials and affects only Debian installations configured with the MySQL backend; other backends are unaffected.
