Local code execution via quserex.dll search hijack
Published Feb 12, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
DLL search-path hijacking in Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 7.8.1 build-20140505 allows local users to execute arbitrary code. The vcloader.exe, vc.exe, and vc_buy.exe programs resolve quserex.dll through an untrusted search path, allowing a planted library to load as trusted code. Execution requires a planted DLL and user interaction to launch an affected executable; the payload runs with that user's privileges.
