Authenticated script injection via profile field name
Published Feb 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Cross-site scripting in MyBB before 1.6.13 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary script via the config-profile_fields name parameter. The edit action stores the supplied name value without adequate output encoding, so profile-field pages render attacker-controlled HTML or JavaScript. Exploitation requires a valid remote account and a victim viewing the affected profile-field content; browser-side script execution can alter page content or act with the victim's session privileges.
