Authentication bypass via disclosed backup key
Published Jan 28, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Authentication bypass in HandsomeWeb SOS Webpages before 1.1.12 allows remote attackers to access administrative backup functions. The backup.php endpoint returns the valid MD5 authentication key when a supplied k value is wrong, then accepts that disclosed key to create backups of CMS files. Default installations expose the endpoint without authentication; cracking the disclosed hash recovers the administrator password and permits further site control.
