HTTPS peer spoofing via disabled certificate verification

Improper certificate validation in libwww-perl LWP::Protocol::https 6.04 through 6.06 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof HTTPS peers. The environment-variable compatibility path sets verify_hostname to zero, and _extra_sock_opts then forces SSL_verify_mode to zero instead of preserving chain validation. Exploitation requires IO::Socket::SSL and HTTPS_CA_FILE or HTTPS_CA_DIR in the client process; an intercepted connection can receive attacker-controlled content.
