Code execution via unchecked PSD RLE expansion
Published Feb 6, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Buffer overflow in ImageMagick before 6.8.8-5 allows remote attackers to execute code by causing a crafted RLE-compressed PSD image to be opened. DecodePSDPixels checks only the current output index before expanding the next run, so a run whose decoded length exceeds the remaining buffer overwrites allocated pixel storage. Exploitation requires a user or automated system to open the file; the resulting corruption can crash ImageMagick or execute code with that process's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
