Sandbox protection bypass via mutable wrapped strings

Published Dec 19, 2023 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Protection mechanism failure in Corveda PHPSandbox 1.3.4 allows remote authenticated users to bypass sandbox string controls. The SandboxedString wrapper allowed sandboxed code to manipulate or inspect protected strings through native PHP operations without consistently preserving its checks. A calling application must execute attacker-controlled PHP inside the sandbox; the published consequence is limited to unauthorized data modification.
