Arbitrary SQL execution via unescaped version string
Published Jan 15, 2023 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
SQL injection in searx_stats cgi/cron.php allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL through a crafted Searx version string. The cron task interpolates the version string retrieved from each monitored Searx instance into an UPDATE statement without escaping it. Exploitation requires control of a monitored endpoint's version response, and resulting queries can read or alter data accessible to the application database account.
