Cross-site WebSocket hijacking via unchecked Origin
Published Jan 9, 2023 · Updated Nov 25, 2024
Origin validation error in Luke Hutchison Gribbit allows attackers to hijack authenticated WebSocket connections across origins. HttpRequestHandler.messageReceived completed the /websocket upgrade without comparing the request Origin scheme, host, and port to the server or requiring a matching per-user CSRF token. Exploitation requires an authenticated user's browser to open a cross-origin WebSocket, exposing the connection's confidentiality and integrity to the attacker's origin.
