Authenticated file overwrite via traversal filename
Published Jan 2, 2023 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Path traversal in Rails CV App allows remote authenticated users to overwrite server files through a crafted upload filename. The create action derives UploadedFile.absolute_path from the untrusted filename and passes it to File.open in write mode without first stripping directory segments. Access to the upload workflow is required, and writes remain limited by the application service account's filesystem permissions.
