Memory corruption via undersized RGB plane buffer
Published Jun 19, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Memory corruption in FFmpeg 2.0 allows remote attackers to corrupt process memory via crafted Lagarith video with pixel-format changes. The lag_decode_frame function allocates rgb_planes only for the first RGB frame, then reuses that allocation after dimensions or pixel format change, causing writes past the buffer. Processing the crafted media is required; invalid writes can crash the decoding process or corrupt its memory.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
