CVE-2014-125021Network attack vector

Service interruption via stale frame references

Published Jun 19, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Memory corruption in FFmpeg 2.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt media processing via a crafted Electronic Arts CMV file. The cmv_process_header function changes frame dimensions without releasing last_frame and last2_frame, leaving stale references that cause invalid reads. Processing an attacker-supplied CMV stream reaches the decoder path without authentication; published evidence establishes availability impact, not code execution.
