CVE-2014-125005Network attack vector

Process crash via truncated VOL header overread

Published Jun 18, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in FFmpeg 2.0 allows context-dependent attackers to crash the process via a crafted MPEG-4 video file. decode_vol_header reads the next four VOL-header bits without first ensuring that four bits remain, causing a heap out-of-bounds read on truncated input. A user or consuming application must decode the malicious file; the bounded consequence is interruption of that FFmpeg process.
