CVE-2014-125002Network attack vector

Encoding service interruption via undersized rate-control allocation

Published Jun 18, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in the DNxHD encoder in FFmpeg 2.0 allows attackers to interrupt encoding through crafted video parameters. The dnxhd_init_rc function allocates mb_rc for only qmax entries but accesses the qmax-indexed entry when RC_VARIANCE is zero. Exploitation requires an application to run the DNxHD encoder with attacker-influenced parameters; the write can corrupt process memory and interrupt the encoding service.
