CVE-2014-0144

Host code execution via unchecked disk image metadata

Published Feb 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Improper input validation in QEMU block drivers before 2.0.0 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code in the host QEMU process. The affected parsers trust image-supplied offsets, sizes, counts, and header lengths; one network-block path also copies data into a local buffer without first validating its size. The attacker must cause QEMU to open a crafted disk image, enabling a virtual-machine crash or host-process memory corruption.
