CVE-2014-0048Network attack vector

Code execution via unauthenticated executable downloads

Published Jan 2, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Improper transport security in Docker Hub before 1.6.0 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to substitute executable downloads. Docker programs and scripts retrieve executable content and trust-signing keys over unauthenticated HTTP, then execute that content or rely on those keys to validate later downloads. An attacker positioned on the download path can replace both code and its trust material, enabling execution of attacker-controlled content.
