CVE-2013-4561

Local disclosure and file overwrite via predictable log

Published Jun 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Insecure temporary-file handling in OpenShift code allows local users to read privileged cron output or overwrite files via /tmp/facts.log. The privileged openshift-facts cron job redirects update_yaml.rb output to a fixed path in the shared temporary directory, where a local user can precreate the file or substitute a symlink before the shell opens it. Exploitation requires local node access and the affected cron script; Red Hat states that shipped OpenShift Enterprise 1.x packages were not vulnerable.
