Code execution via malformed IMAGE tag
Published Jan 2, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in IrfanView MR-SID PlugIn before 4.37 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted SID file. MrSID.dll improperly validates the IMAGE tag while parsing SID image data, allowing attacker-controlled data to overflow a stack buffer. Execution requires a user to open the crafted image, and resulting code runs in the IrfanView process under that user's account.
