Code execution via crafted BMP bit depth
Published Jan 2, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Heap-based buffer overflow in xnview.exe in XnView before 2.13 allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted BMP file. The BMP parser uses attacker-controlled biBitCount metadata while processing the image and writes beyond a heap buffer. Exploitation requires a user to open the file, after which attacker-controlled code runs with the application's privileges.
