Administrator takeover via truncated padded email address
Published Feb 12, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Email-validation flaw in Invision Power Board 3.4.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to take over an administrator account. The registration and profile forms accept an overlong padded email address; MySQL truncates it to a value that password-change lookup treats as the administrator's address. Knowledge of the administrator's email address is required, and takeover permits PHP code execution through the template editor.
