CVE-2013-3317Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated administrative access via .jpg URL bypass

Published Jan 29, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Authentication bypass in Netgear WNR1000v3 firmware before 1.0.2.60 allows remote attackers to gain administrative access via the web server. The web server skips authentication for URLs containing “.jpg”, including a request for NETGEAR_fwpt.cfg?.jpg; the returned configuration can be decrypted with the weak NtgrBak-derived scheme to recover the admin password. An attacker only needs network access to the device’s web interface, after which administrative control and configuration disclosure are possible.
