Router takeover via persistent authentication disablement
Published Jan 28, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Authentication bypass in NETGEAR Centria WNDR4700 firmware 1.0.0.34 allows remote attackers to take control via a crafted web request. Requesting BRS_03B_haveBackupFile_fileRestore.html without credentials makes the embedded web server stop enforcing HTTP Basic Authentication across the administration interface. Access requires LAN or WLAN position by default; WAN exploitation requires remote management, and the disabled authentication persists through power cycles until a factory reset.
