Unauthenticated firmware replacement via UPnP update action
Published Jan 28, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in Belkin Wemo Switch firmware before WeMo_US_2.00.2176.PVT allows remote attackers to replace device firmware. The unauthenticated UPnP UpdateFirmware action accepts an attacker-controlled URL and directs the switch to retrieve the referenced firmware image. Network access to the device's UPnP service is sufficient, and a successful upload installs attacker-supplied firmware and grants shell access.
