Remote code execution via plugin URL overflow
Published Aug 5, 2025 · Updated May 25, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in Foxit Software Foxit PDF Reader before 5.4.5.0114 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through a crafted URL. The npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll URL-decoding copy loop writes an overlong query string past a stack buffer, overwriting control data. Exploitation requires a user to browse to an attacker-controlled page that redirects the Firefox plugin to a remote PDF; code runs with the user's privileges.
