Root command execution via unrestricted zsudo argument
Published Aug 4, 2025 · Updated Apr 7, 2026
Local privilege escalation in ZPanel allows local users with shell access to execute arbitrary commands as root through zsudo. The helper runs an attacker-controlled executable supplied as its first argument with root privileges when sudoers permits the caller to invoke it. The caller must already have a local shell and permission to run zsudo, such as a compromised web-server account; successful exploitation grants full root control.
