Reflected XSS via unescaped current-request URL
Published Mar 11, 2023 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Debug Bar 0.8 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script in an authenticated user's browser via a crafted URL. The query panel's render method calls add_query_arg without an explicit URL, then inserts the current request URL into the “Show them anyway” link without esc_url encoding when more than 500 queries are logged. Exploitation requires an authenticated user with Debug Bar visible to follow the crafted URL in an older browser; injected script then runs in that user's WordPress session.
