Email interception via unverified server certificates
Published May 17, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Improper certificate validation in the HTC One and Sense 4.x mail client allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read or alter email traffic. The client accepts a mail server's TLS certificate without correctly validating its trust, allowing an impostor server to establish the encrypted session. Exploitation requires control of the network path between a configured mail account and its server; no service interruption is reported.
