Remote file disclosure via external entity resolution
Published Feb 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Nokogiri before 1.5.4 allows remote attackers to read local files through XML external entity expansion in parsed input. The XML parser resolves attacker-supplied SYSTEM entities and opens referenced URLs because external network access is not disabled. Exploitation requires an application to parse attacker-controlled XML; successful payloads disclose readable files or trigger outbound requests, without evidence of integrity or availability impact.
