CVE-2012-6613Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Persistent root access via default admin credentials

Published Jan 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Default credentials in D-Link DSR-250N firmware 1.05B73_WW and earlier allow remote attackers to gain persistent root access. The factory configuration enables SSH with the admin account password set to admin, exposing the device CLI to any network-reachable attacker. The published proof of concept uses that CLI to rename the administrator as a built-in UID 0 account and set a chosen password.
