CVE-2012-6133Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Browser script execution via permissive message filter

Published Jan 30, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Cross-site scripting in Roundup Tracker Roundup before 1.4.20 allows remote attackers to run script via crafted issue-page messages. The web interface's clean_message function applies a permissive regular expression to @ok_message and @error_message input, allowing malformed script tags to survive filtering and enter the response. Execution requires a user to follow the attacker's crafted URL, after which the script runs in Roundup's origin and can read or alter browser-accessible data.
